Additional provisions in the bill mean approximately $18 billion dollars in renewable tax credits across the board, not only for solar power but for wind energy and other clean fuel sources as well. In addition to federal incentives, some states offer some tax rebates and other incentives of their own, like for thermal systems, but this is individual and varies from state to state. The tax credit is available for existing homes, new construction and secondary homes, but not for rentals. It is always best to talk to a licensed tax consultant with any questions regarding credits and incentives.
