Solar Powered Homes are an easy process provided you have a usable roof or enough land to cover all your energy needs
A few items of note: 1. Be sure the contractor or you are up to par with city codes.
2. An electrician (inspector) will need to come in and certify your install to make sure the system is compliant with local energy standards. Your local utility company must approve of a grid tied system. (these are the ones that allow your meter to spin backwards).
3. Consider the cost of doing this with contractors and how much you can do yourself. Some good contractors are RealGoods (apart of Gaiam). They have the best and most affordable solar energy products.

Is It Worth the Cost to Have My Solar Panel Installation Done Professionally?

Solar panel production is meeting with more and more people looking into the possibility of adding solar panels to their home. Solar panel manufacturers are changing in appearance and scope. You are just as likely to find solar power in a rural cabin type home as you are in a more urban, larger, designer home and even in the homes in between

The first of the solar powered homes had larger and very obvious solar panels and did not always look like traditional homes. Today, solar powered homes are becoming more mainstream mostly due to solar energy tax credits. You only have to pay for your solar panels once. More people are using solar panels in their cabins, their homes and even their recreational vehicles, making solar power far more common than it has ever been.
