Solar Powered Water Heater
The hot water heating system consists of a solar collector, a storage tank and equipment to distribute water. The hot water heating system can be either direct or indirect.
Under the directly system, water flowing through the collector is heated. In the indirect system, the fluid heated in the collector is passed through a heat exchanger in the storage tank and hot water is held in the reservoir.
The solar collector located on the roof usually heats the water. Normally, the collector is a thin, rectangular box, which has a series of pipes through it; and, it is painted black for maximum heat absorption. The water passing through these black pipes is heated.
For the flow of water, there is either a low-power pump or it is moved by convection, where hot water rises and cold water sinks. To produce circulation by convection, the tank is placed above the collector. The water rises into the storage tank as it warms and cold water eventually will be heated. A low-power pump can also be used to distribute water.
