The Federal tax credit can be claimed by the purchaser at up to 30% of the cost of the solar home energy system subject to the following limits:
1 Solar water heating - $2,000
2 Solar Electric - $2,000 before 31st December 2008 and unlimited from 1st January 2009.
Many states also offer solar powered home tax credits. They are not solely limited to only one type of government agency. You may take advantage of the tax credit offered by the federal government and the state government depending on what state you are in and what part of the state you are in.
