passive heat
Passive Heat this is heat produced from convection, radiation or conduction. The driving force is the sun. For people who don't know what this is think of a black top parking lot. In the middle of August or January (depending on where you live) the heat coming from the surface is radiant heat.
Your summer day starts out great! The sun is out and you take your car out to go somewhere fun. When you return and open the car door, heat rolls up into your face. This is known as convection heat. Rather unpleasant but it is a good example of what convection heat is.
During your day you are exposed to mainly radiant heat. Unless it is summer and you are out in shorts walking on concrete, sand or asphalt. All day convection heat has little impact on the temperature outside (considering a light breeze is present). However, your feet may think differently. The warming expierenced on the soles of your feet is a prime example of conduction.
Passive heat relies on these principles to function or drive heating in homes that use passive solar energy design. There are no photovoltaic panels required. Thereby reducing the cost of Solar Powered Homes.
